Manchester Airport (MAN) is located in the Ringway, Manchester, England. This international airport was the third busiest airport in the United Kingdom in 2014 in terms of passenger traffic. Outside of the London region, Manchester Airport is the largest airport by far, with over double the capacity of the next-largest non-London airport.
During WWII, the airport was known as “RAF Ringway” and served as a base for the Royal Air Force. From 1975 to 1986, MAN was known as “Manchester International Airport.”
Manchester Airport currently handles over 20 million passengers each year, and maintains enough spare capacity to handle up to 50 million passengers annually. The actual capacity of the airport is limited by the number of aircraft movements per hour, however, which caps out at 61.
